Tokyo Story
I must say that watching the film "Tokyo Story" was an informative and enlightening experience for me.I especially appreciate experiencing eveyday life other than my own. The film was rich in Japenese norms, customs and culture, much of which I had been unaware of prior to watching the film. It was interesting to watch the different personalities, and character flaws of the old couple's children slowly become apparent. The film genuinely depicts how relationships between grown children and their parents change, become stressful and burdensome especially when they have movedso far apart from each other. The film also presented an interesting twist, in that the couple's daughter in law, married to their dead son is the only one who appreciates and shows them kindness. Their children seemed to be doing well but posses a very selfish attitude, while Nokiro, the daughter in law has very little and is very generous with what little she has. I guess it was a little surprising to see this kind of behavior among other races, when I have seen and experienced itso much in my own environment. In the end, even after the death of the mother, although the children did show thier grief, there was very little change in their character. Imagining these characters as they become elderly themselves, maybe then they will understand the error of they ways, when they are treated the same way by their grown children.
